Federal Highway Trust Fund Going Broke: What’s the Impact on Construction Jobs?

The word from Washington, D.C. is that funding for federal transportation projects could be tapped by 2015, leaving many business sectors up in arms. Some congressional leaders say that for the first time in 20 years, a federal gas tax could be enacted to help sustain the funding. Others maintain states should be paying more. “On a typical highway project, the state will provide a fifth of the funding and the federal government will pick up the rest,” explains a post on PewStates.org.  How will this impact the number of jobs that are available for highway projects?
