Feds: Construction Workers Among Highest Risk for Hearing Loss

A 30-year study on occupational hearing loss concludes that people working in construction, mining and health care are at the greatest risk for hearing loss. The National

Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) says some 22 million U.S. workers are exposed to hazardous noise at work, and most cases of hearing loss can be prevented. “The construction sector had the highest incidence of hearing loss during most time periods,” according to the study. NIOSH also concludes that some hearing loss prevention efforts have been successful over the past three decades, yet more needs to be done to prevent debilitating hearing damage.
