Since Mt Vernon opened to visitors, more than eighty-five million guests have come to visit George Washington's estate since 1860. Today, the estate welcomes an average of one million visitors every year. The mansion, garden, and farm of the estate spanned approximately eight thousand acres in the eighteenth century. About five hundred of these acres have been beautifully preserved along the Potomac River. Alexandria also has a beautiful historic Old Town, beautiful parks, great museums, and unique attractions. Be sure to ride on the free King Street Trolley which will take you past several famous landmarks & attractions.
