Government Shutdown Would Jeopardize Worker Safety

As many as 500 complaints from workers in the U.S. are reported every day to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). If federal lawmakers can’t resolve their budget differences in the coming days, one expert maintains a government shutdown will jeopardize worker safety and health. Ronald White is director of regulatory policy at the Center for Effective Government.  White cites two brief government shutdowns in the mid-1990s, which he says forced 95 percent of the reported complaints to go unanswered.
