Are OSHA’s Regs on Workplace Violence Enough?
The construction industry knows all too well about on-the-job injuries and fatalities. But what about workplace violence that often ends in death? A post on HRProfessionalsMagazine.com states: “OSHA’s general requirement basically directs employers to protect their employees from ‘foreseeable’ risks. HR Professionals are not expected to protect employees from every possible danger, just those that are reasonably foreseeable risks either universally or industry-specific. A bank robbery is an example of an ‘industry-specific’ foreseeable risk.” As diligent as hiring managers and HR pros can be at screening new hires, leaders must take time to periodically review OSHA regulations. The reason companies are lax is that a majority of executives mistakenly believe “it could never happen here.”
