The Younger Face of Workplace Safety

Young construction workers get hurt at a disproportionately high rate, and employers must address this problem. The injuries may be related to inexperience, immaturity or simply being accident-prone, but Andrew Deen writes that ample training has to be provided to young workers on construction jobs. “Around half of all young workers work without nearby supervision, and around a quarter of them have no supervision at all during some shifts,” says Deen. “Given that around 35 percent of all injuries happen to unsupervised workers, it seems to be an obvious choice that younger workers have some kind of direct supervision in the workplace.” A solid post on Occupational Health and Safety that can’t be ignored.
