Construction is the Bright Spot in January’s Dismal Jobs Report

“Construction showed a surprising gain of 48,000, a group unexpected to see gains in the winter weather,” writes Executive News Editor Patti Domm on CNBC.com. A total of 113,000 nonfarm jobs were created in January, a bit off from Thomson Reuters’ predicted 185,000. The figures have economists and analysts scratching their heads. “A second month of surprisingly weak job growth and a lower unemployment rate is sending mixed and inconclusive messages about how much the economy is being impacted by weather or just slowing for some other reason,” explains Domm.
