Florida Community Looks to Ban Schools and Shelters in Downtown Area
Elected officials in Kissimmee, FL don’t want new schools or shelters being built in the downtown area. A zoning ordinance expected to take effect at the end of October may be emulated by other communities around the U.S. Supporters of the ban say it will help keep traffic manageable and benefit business. Opponents argue that people who utilize homeless shelters lack transportation and need access to downtown streets. Currently, there are no homeless shelters in Kissimmee or in all of Osceola County. How could this change affect the construction industry?
