Smartphones Are Employees’ Lifelines in Disasters

Communication is an integral part of disaster preparedness, but do employers understand the role of smartphones when trouble hits construction job sites? Extreme weather, explosions and fires can hamper responses from emergency teams. This leaves workers dependent on their mobile phones. Chris Britton writes on the Occupational Health and Safety website: “To empower employees to best prepare and respond to disasters, companies need to take a closer look at how smartphone technology can support and extend existing emergency plan efforts.” Britton also says disaster preparedness procedures can easily be shared and tailored for individuals based on a specific type of disaster event, thanks to smartphones.
