How Your Construction Company Can Build a Millennial-Friendly Culture

Listen to what is right, not who is right. That’s the secret of an organization that operates based on a flat perspective instead of hierarchical one. This approach has been successful for DPR Construction in California for nearly 25 years. It helps to attract and keep millennials in construction-related jobs, as this demographic appreciates the “what’s right vs. who’s right’ mindset,” says Peter Salvati, a member of DPR’s management committee. “Alongside—rather than under—is right. DPR is so egalitarian that it has no CEO. Instead, there is a shared leadership structure with a management committee of seven people,” according to a post on Talentculture.com. Salvati says DPR encourages young employees to stretch themselves on projects, and to take responsibility when help is needed.
