‘Super Skinny’ is the New Trend in Skyscrapers

Super skinny isn’t just for women’s clothing ads. Architects, designers, and engineers are going super skinny so they can erect skyscrapers on small, constricted parcels of land. In the U.S., we’ve seen the sleek design of the Freedom Tower in lower Manhattan, the mecca of tall buildings. A post on Sourceable.net explains that regardless of location, wind is always a critical factor. “Optimizing the building stability solution to meet occupant comfort requirements in terms of perceived movement (horizontal accelerations from high wind activity) is also another major consideration for super skinny skyscrapers.” The post also states that Melbourne, Australia is experiencing a surge in super skinny building.
