The Latest on Construction Jobs Created in May

Some 6,000 jobs in the construction sector were created last month, continuing the slow and steady improvement we’ve seen the past several years. The U.S. Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics says that a few sectors have done well. “The strongest segments were heavy-civil engineering construction and residential specialty trades contractors, which each picked up 3,200 positions,” explains Tom Ichniowski, a reporter for ENR.com. “The weakest were nonresidential buildings and residential specialty trades, which combined to shed a modest 500 jobs.” Where are the other bright spots in the May figures?
