Winter Weather Taking a Toll on Construction Workers—and Roads

The federal government is spending $232 million in emergency road and bridge repairs which are the result of brutal winter storms. Department of Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx says 26 states and Puerto Rico will receive the federal aid. While Foxx says the work is needed to ensure that people can move around in their communities safely, he noted the bigger picture in Washington, DC is pressing as well.  The Obama administration’s broader transportation funding plan calls for spending nearly $80 billion annually on road and transit projects over the next six years.
